NRG NCORP Overview

NRG Oncology received a five-year funding award in fall 2014 to carry out clinical research as a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Research Base. The NRG NCORP Research Base will provide scientific and statistical leadership for developing, implementing, and analyzing multi-institutional clinical trials of cancer prevention, control, screening, and post treatment surveillance, as well as cancer care delivery research (CCDR).

NRG NCORP research plans are well integrated into NRG Oncology’s scientific program, which includes a unique focus on both women’s health and radiation therapy. The overarching research themes the NRG NCORP plans to pursue include:

  • Developing and evaluate interventions designed to prevent or reduce the risk of cancer as well as cancer treatment morbidities, and improve QoL and overall outcomes.
  • Testing and further validating patient-reported measures across many cancer disease types to evaluate and design interventions to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors.
  • Develop and conduct randomized and pragmatic implementation trials of interventions that have the potential to generate benefits comparable to those found in drug treatment trials.
  • Leveraging NRG Oncology’s therapeutic trials to provide a unique research portfolio—with particular foci on women’s cancers and radiation oncology innovation—to NRG Oncology’s research community   and across the National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN).
  • Understand and address health disparities in an effort to reduce the unequal burden of cancer in the US.
