Dr. Lisa Kachnic Named NRG Oncology NCORP Co-Principal Investigator

Lisa Kachnic, MD, FASTRO, will be transitioning to the role of NRG Oncology (NRG) National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Co-Principal Investigator (PI) effective immediately. Dr. Kachnic formerly served as the NRG NCORP Deputy PI and the NRG Cancer Prevention & Control Committee Chair. She will be replacing Dr. Walker, who recently stepped down as NRG NCORP PI to pursue a deeper involvement in the group’s health equity and mentorship activities. Dr. Kachnic has been a part of the NRG NCORP leadership since the inception of NRG Oncology in 2014.

“I am delighted to begin this new position working alongside my mentor, Dr. Bruner, and our NCORP committees, to bring clinically meaningful cancer control, prevention and care delivery trials to the patients in our NRG Oncology community settings, “stated Dr. Kachnic on her new role. “I also want to extend a special thank you to Dr. Joan Walker; she has been an exceptional role model,” said Kachnic.

In addition to her involvement at NRG, Dr. Kachnic is the Chu H. Chang Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, as well as the Chief of Radiation Oncology Service at the New York-Presbyterian / Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She is also the Associate Director of Radiation Oncology and Science in the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Deborah Bruner, contact PI for the NRG NCORP, stated, “We are excited to welcome Dr. Kachnic into this role.She has several decades of experience in the NCTN with both NRG and SWOG and has been the PI or Co-I of numerous GI clinical trials as well as a long-time dedicated committee chair and most recently, deputy chair of NCORP. She steps up at a critical time as we move toward reviewing and updating our strategic vision for the next grant period. “
