Veterans Affairs/Military Treatment Facility (VA-MTF) Subcommittee

Purpose
The purpose of this subcommittee is to increase recruitment of Veterans and Active Servicemembers to screening and therapeutic clinical trials. The Subcommittee is focused on increasing the availability of radiation focused therapeutic clinical trials to Veterans and Active Servicemembers. The Subcommittee seeks to provide critical input from clinicians caring for the these patient populations toward the development of new NRG Oncology trials.
The purpose of this Subcommittee is to provide a forum for working through barriers to participation specific to VA-MTF Members. This forum allows NRG to work with and support the engagement of VA-MTF Members by understanding and addressing the sometimes unique regulatory, administrative, or other barriers to accrual specific to this community. The Subcommittee also seeks to bring together members of NRG Oncology with stakeholders and leaders within the Veterans Health Administration in order to create a closer partnership focused on clinical trial development and activation and a more robust clinical research infrastructure. Staff from VA-MTF Members are encouraged to attend and participate in the subcommittee meetings. The Subcommittee holds meetings in the context of the summer and winter NRG Oncology meetings with all Members; representatives from NCI and VA-ORD are routinely invited to offer input and provide guidance in support of the Subcommittee’s goals. In addition, quarterly meetings are generally held via remote participation to highlight specific trials or upcoming Subcommittee efforts.
