The NRG Oncology Winter meeting is fast approaching! The Protocol Support Committee (PSC) has been working hard to put together two days of programing specifically for our clinical trial nurse (CTN) and clinical research associate (CRA) members. We are excited to share a sneak peek of what to expect at the 2023 NRG Oncology Winter Meeting:
1. Introduction to Clinical Trials: Principles of Clinical Trial Management
If you are new to NRG Oncology, we strongly encourage you to attend the orientation session, “Introduction to Clinical Trials: Principles of Clinical Trial Management”, on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 7:30am ET–4:30pm ET. This orientation session is primarily for research staff with one year or less of experience in NRG Oncology trials, however, we always welcome our seasoned members that are looking for a ‘refresher’ course.
The primary objective is to provide introductory information about NRG Oncology, and National Cancer Institute (NCI) policies and procedures, as well as information required to perform the specific job responsibilities of a CTN and CRA when implementing NRG Oncology clinical trials.
The program is divided into a morning and afternoon session. The morning session will be a hybrid lecture format with presentation topics on Membership, Regulatory Affairs, Expedited Adverse Event Reporting, Investigational Drug Management, Medidata Rave, Quality Assurance Audits, Pathology/Biospecimen Collections, RECIST Criteria, and a review of the NRG Oncology Mentor Program.
The afternoon session consists of special discussion forums, also known as breakout sessions, allowing for more interactive learning among both the in-person and virtual attendees. The four breakout session topics include Patient Screening and Enrollment, Treatment Modalities, Data Management and Adverse Event Reporting. Attendees will rotate through all four breakout sessions as assigned.
2. Continuing Education Program
On Friday, January 27, 2023, from 7:30 am ET- 11:30 am ET, the PSC will offer the “Continuing Education Program” for in-person and virtual attendees. This session is for both seasoned and new research staff. The Cancer Trials Support Unit (CTSU) will provide administrative updates and the Pharmaceutical Management Branch (PMB) will introduce the new inventory management system -Aurora. Subsequently, we are offering a guided immersive meditation to wind down the first half of the morning session. This will be followed by an educational lecture addressing Alternative and Complementary Therapies in Oncology, as well as an interactive panel discussion on “What it Takes to Have an Exceptional Audit’ led by members of the NRG Quality Assurance team and CTNs/CRAs from various NRG Oncology sites.
The PSC will be submitting applications for Nursing CEU and CME credits for these sessions. We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
